Song of the month: JANUARY 2024

Welcome to 2024! I pray that your Christmas season was special and I pray that your year will be filled with blessings, big and small.

Isn't it so true that we want to see change, but are too scared to change ourselves? That is the basic theme behind Casting Crown’s song, Start Right Here. ‘We want to see hearts set free and tyrants kneel, walls fall down and our land be healed.’ In our hearts, we want good things, beautiful things, Christian things to happen. But don’t know where to start making them happen.

Along with wanting change, we know that being a Christian means serving,  but we keep that service at a distance, supporting others as they do the serving. Don’t get me wrong, the support is necessary, but there is more to service than simply supporting those who serve. The problem is that we want the blessing of service, but not the sacrifice of serving. "We keep our missions overseas, but for the hurting in our city, would we even cross the street?"

"But church, if we want to see change in the world out there… it’s got to start right here."

Friends, don’t look too far away for a need. Look in your home. In your family. In your heart. You might be what needs to change. Start inwards and expand outwards. Once the Lord starts working inside you, He will show you where to work outside of you. 

The first step is not being an only Sunday believer. That’s not really a believer, that’s a pious person who wants to check all the boxes. You can’t serve or see change if you only speak to God on a Sunday. 

What if the church on Sunday was the church on Monday too? What if we came down from our towers and walked a mile in someone’s shoes?

Take the time right now to look for the right place to start changing from the inside. True change happens from the inside out. Let that be your goal for this year: to become more like Jesus. 

It starts right here, it starts right now.
