Song of the Month: DECEMBER 2023

There’s no getting around the fact that the Christmas season is crazily busy. It gets us rushing around, flustered and forgetting the real reason for the season. Christ’s birth. Into the chaos of the world came God’s only Son, who’s life’s purpose was to save us from the darkness of sin. 

Christmas isn’t about the festivities, it’s about Him. Among all the business, we lose the true meaning of Christmas. That’s why I love the song Make Room by Casting Crowns (featuring Matt Maher). 

I love this song because it provides a beautiful analogy. In the nativity story, Mary and Joseph travelled to Bethlehem. They frantically searched high and low for an inn that would accommodate them. But everybody was full to the brim. The inns couldn’t fit anybody else. 

Isn’t that like our hearts? We fill our hearts with the hustle and bustle of life until all our priorities crowd into one another, leaving no room for God. 

In the nativity story, the innkeeper said, “No room.” 

In our stories, we, the innkeepers of our hearts, also say, “No room.”

It was for this a child was born, to save a world so cold and hollow. He came for us to make room for Him instead of sin.

Instead of not having room this Christmas season, we need to say, “Yes, Father, there’s room for You.  There’s room for joy, peace, hope and love. Come inside.” 

But to do that, we have to kick some things out into the stable. That’s not easy, but it’s worth it. God’s plan is always worth it.

I challenge you to make room in your heart in the middle of the chaos this Christmas to allow Jesus in. Only then will you experience what the true meaning of Christmas is.
